I'm afraid this blog is going to be rather difficult to maintain as I can't even open my own blog page to see what it looks like. It is blocked here in China. So, those outside of China can see what I am attempting to post...but I can't. I'm looking at alternatives, and as I mentioned in the recent group email, I may just send email letters to you all. If anyone has any alternatives, let me know.
Beyond technology woes, Shanghai is entering a fabulous season of cooler temperatures, refreshing breezes, and clear-blue-sky days. Today, like other days this week, I step outside of the school building to warm up (the air conditioning is too cold for me). And if I close my eyes, I can imagine standing on the beach in Michigan. Okay, no waves crashing or seagulls cawing, but there's just enough moisture in the air, and the sun bakes just enough to feel like it. (Let me imagine--it's the closest I will get to the beautiful beaches of Michigan for a year!)
We are preparing for our Opening Day Celebration on September 28. The evening will include champagne, speeches, gift-giving, ribbon cutting and even "cold fireworks" for 100 invited guests. Some will come from ELS headquarters in the US. Yes, it's a big day, and an auspicious day in the Chinese calendar. When I find out the details, I'll let you know.
The building renovations are finished on campus, and next week I should have my office furniture. Yeah!! That means I can officially occupy my office and start setting up files! I'm growing out of the temp office and its small desk. I'm ready to start getting organized.
Okay, a lot of business talk. But it is late for me; I had a very long day at the office (12 hours).
(Can't get the photos to line up as I like--oh well. They are views of the "Mansion" or main building which was built in 1920. It is our administration building. The other photo with the handless maidens is the entrance to the auditorium and classroom building.)
